Few civilisations left their mark on the physical world as thoroughly as Rome. This Spanish documentary series, produced by RTVE, examines the engineering intelligence behind that legacy, guided by Isaac Moreno Gallo, a public works engineer, geographer and historian whose expertise shapes every frame.
Filming on location across surviving Roman sites, Moreno Gallo moves through aqueducts, roads, theatres and mines, explaining not just what was built but how, and why the solutions Romans reached were so durable. One of the series' recurring ideas is Rome's particular capacity to absorb knowledge from other cultures and then refine it into something more systematic and more ambitious. The infrastructure that resulted was designed to bind vast territories together, control water supplies, and make possible cities of extraordinary scale.
3D renderings sit alongside present-day footage to bring structural detail into focus, making the engineering logic visible in a way that ground-level footage alone cannot achieve.
Directed by José Antonio Muñiz and produced in 2023 to 2024, the series offers acquisitions partners a specialist historical documentary with a strong, credible on-screen presence, a clear visual methodology, and subject matter that travels well across European broadcast and educational markets.
