Journalist Sean Ricks has always been drawn to superheroes. Not the fictional kind, exactly, but the idea that ordinary people might be capable of something extraordinary. That question becomes the premise for a year-long experiment designed by brain researcher Katri Saarikivi, who challenges Sean to push past his own perceived limits and find out what the mind can actually do.
The series takes Sean around the world to meet people who have developed abilities that seem, on first encounter, impossible. Each encounter is both a lesson and a provocation: if they can do this, what might he be capable of?
Grounded in neuroscience and shaped by genuine curiosity, Superhumans avoids the easy inspirational register. The science is real, the self-doubt is real, and the journey is conducted over twelve months rather than a single transformative moment. Saarikivi's framework gives the series intellectual credibility, while Sean's candid, sometimes humbling progression gives it warmth and forward motion.
The result is a documentary series that takes human potential seriously without reducing it to motivational shorthand. For audiences interested in the science of the mind and what people are capable of becoming, it offers something genuinely thought-provoking.
