What will we actually be eating in twenty years? That question drives this five-part Finnish documentary series, in which top chef Henri Alén and scientist Lauri Reuter travel from Japan to Mexico in search of the people quietly redesigning our food supply.
The two make for an unlikely but engaging pair. Alén brings the instincts of someone who has spent a career thinking about flavour and craft. Reuter brings the curiosity of someone unafraid to ask how something is made at a molecular level. Together they visit the laboratories and startups where cultured meat, chickenless eggs, genetically engineered fish, and protein grown from thin air are already becoming reality.
The series doesn't treat these innovations as abstractions. Alén and Reuter taste them, question them, and push back on the people behind them. Some results are surprising. Some are uncomfortable. Beer brewed from urine gets its own reckoning.
Beneath the provocation is a genuinely urgent subject. The planet cannot sustain current food production indefinitely, and the series explores what that means for the foods people love most, from hamburgers to sushi. Directed by Petri Luukkainen, Would You Eat This? approaches a complex global challenge with curiosity, good humour, and an appetite for the unexpected.
