In September 1998, record producer Ricardo Campoy survived an assassination attempt. The man behind it was his former partner and closest friend, Miguel Degà. Megamix Brutal works back from that moment to understand how two people who built something extraordinary together could arrive at such a point.
Their story begins in the early 1980s, as Spain emerged from dictatorship and a generation threw itself into the freedoms of the dancefloor. Campoy and Degà were among the first to recognise what was happening, founding Max Music and turning the megamix, a format built from fragments of existing tracks, into a genuine commercial phenomenon. Releases like Max Mix and Máquina Total sold in enormous quantities. Artists broke through. An empire was built.
The documentary, directed by Rafa de Los Arcos, follows three decades of music, money, and an increasingly fractured partnership. It moves through the euphoric rave culture of the 1990s and into the industry rivalries, betrayals, and pressures that gradually consumed both men. The friendship at the centre of it all is what gives the series its force.
A music story that becomes a crime story, Megamix Brutal asks what ambition costs and what it ultimately destroys.
