Spain's Behavioral Analysis Section, known as the SAC, sits at the intersection of forensic science and criminal psychology. Formed to pursue offenders whose crimes resist conventional investigation, it is a unit built on the understanding that evidence alone rarely tells the whole story.
This documentary series from RTVE traces both the origins of the SAC and the painstaking methods its psychologist agents use when confronted with Spain's most complex criminal cases. Three real cases form the backbone of the series, each examined across two episodes. The first centres on a serial sexual predator whose attacks across seven years effectively brought the SAC into existence. The second follows the investigation of a violent psychopath operating in Tenerife, whose crimes demanded a precise psychological portrait before progress was possible. The third takes a different turn, focusing on a case built on deliberate deception, where the truth had been buried beneath layers of carefully constructed lies.
Throughout, the agents speak directly about their work. Forensic psychologists and criminologists add further context, giving the viewer a clear-eyed understanding of what the unit does and why it matters.
Directed by Eduardo López-Jamar, the series combines dramatic reconstruction with first-hand testimony to create an authoritative account of crime investigation from the inside.
