Few journeys carry the weight of the Camino de Santiago. Stretching across the European continent along three principal routes, these ancient pilgrimage paths have drawn travellers for over a thousand years, shaping the landscapes, communities, and spiritual imagination of everyone who walks them.
Produced by RTVE and filmed in 4K using helicopters, drones, and ground-level cameras, the series moves through this world with rare visual ambition. Vast mountain passes, medieval villages, cathedral squares, and quiet forest trails appear in extraordinary clarity, giving the viewer an almost physical sense of being on the road.
The series does more than document scenery. It spends time with the people whose lives are bound up with the Camino, those who live and work along its length, and those who have spent years studying its history, folklore, and evolving identity. Their accounts bring the routes into focus as living places, not relics.
History is present throughout. The series draws on centuries of tradition, from the origins of the pilgrimage itself to events like the Battle of Roncesvalles and the enduring mythology of the Xacobeo miracle. Together, the episodes build a portrait of a route that remains, in every sense, Europe's most travelled road.
