Produced by 3Cat and directed by Albert Pons Cabanes, True Football is a Catalan documentary series that travels through the neighbourhoods and villages of Catalonia to find football in its most unadorned form.
Each episode centres on a different centenary club, building an intimate portrait of the players, fans, and volunteers who keep these institutions alive. These are not clubs sustained by television contracts or transfer fees. They survive on loyalty, collective memory, and a deep belief that what happens on a local pitch on a Saturday afternoon matters.
The series observes rather than dramatises. Cameras follow people in their natural environment, letting the rhythms of grassroots football speak for themselves. What emerges is something larger than sport: a record of how communities form identity around a shared passion, and how that identity is passed from one generation to the next.
Together, the clubs featured draw a historical map of football across the region, tracing roots that predate the professional game as most audiences know it. For broadcasters and platforms with an interest in social documentary, cultural heritage, or sports storytelling beyond the elite level, True Football offers a perspective that is both specific in its geography and wide in its human reach.
