Seville, 1920. A girls' academy holds fast to the conventions of another age, its rituals and hierarchies seemingly fixed in amber. Then Teresa arrives.
A teacher with a past she is careful not to reveal, Teresa carries herself differently from the women around her — and sees the world differently too. Her presence unsettles the academy from within, drawing out the hidden lives of the women who teach and study there. The young director Manuela maintains the appearance of the perfect woman while privately struggling to be herself. A veteran teacher, rigid in manner, conceals an unexpected capacity for warmth. Among the students, a popular girl finds in Teresa something closer to friendship than authority, while another quietly prepares to defy her family over her own future.
Set during the Spanish interwar period with period-accurate detail and filmed across Madrid and Seville, the series is built on strong ensemble performances and earns its historical authenticity without sentimentality. Each episode builds outward from individual stories to touch on issues that extend well beyond the 1920s: sexual identity, domestic power, machismo, and the distance between a woman's ambitions and what society will permit.
