Madrid, April 1931. The proclamation of the Second Republic sends crowds into the streets, and a city long held in place by tradition begins to shift on its foundations.
At the centre of this charged moment stands the De la Torre family, one of Madrid's most distinguished households, whose private lives are about to be reshaped by the same forces tearing through Spanish society. Fernando de la Torre is charming, restless, and accustomed to moving through the world on his own terms. He is newly engaged to Mercedes, the devoted daughter of a wealthy banker who has waited years for his attention. Then Alejandra returns from Paris.
Raised under the protection of the De la Torre matriarch, politically awakened and certain of her convictions, Alejandra is unlike anyone Fernando has encountered. She is also the sister of his closest friend. What follows is a love triangle that tightens as Spain itself moves toward confrontation, its brief season of hope giving way to harder choices.
Spanning the first biennium of the Republic through to the conservative electoral victory of late 1933, the series holds personal passion and political transformation in careful balance. A costume drama of scale and emotional weight, produced by RTVE and Diagonal TV.
