Cucut

Two years have passed since Sara walked out of Trinquet and vanished. No word, no trace, nothing. For Pep, who has never stopped loving her, the silence is unbearable. He sets out to find her, driven less by reason than by a need he cannot name.

Set in a rural Catalan town and steeped in the atmosphere of the 1980s, Cucut follows Pep's increasingly desperate search through a world of closed doors and older secrets. When the decomposed body of an unidentified young woman is discovered near the village, what began as a private obsession becomes something far darker.

The series was adapted from the 2019 film La vida sense la Sara Amat, and shares its origins in the landscape and emotional register of rural Catalonia. Directed by Laura Jou and Fernando Trullols Santiago, and created by a team of five writers, it carries the weight of its setting carefully, using place and memory to build suspense from the inside out.

The mystery at its centre is real and keeps its shape across five episodes. But Cucut is, above all, a portrait of youth, of love that outlasts its reason, and of the cost of running from something you cannot leave behind.
