A severe drought lowers the waters of the Campomediano reservoir, exposing the drowned village beneath and, with it, two mummified bodies bearing gunshot wounds. The discovery sets in motion an investigation stretching back to the late 1990s, when environmental protests, a powerful hydroelectric dynasty, and a young man's disappearance converged with violent consequences.
Inspector Daniela Yanes takes the case with something personal at stake, her own convictions quietly implicated in what she uncovers. Investigative journalist Óscar Santos, whose father once crossed the Barbosa family and paid for it, finds in Daniela an uneasy partner. From across the border, Portuguese inspector Hélder Gomes arrives with his own reasons for wanting answers, carrying a debt to a grieving mother that official channels cannot accommodate.
The Barbosa family sits at the centre of it all. Luis Barbosa built his fortune on ambition and buried secrets. His daughter Paula has waited a long time for the right moment.
Drought moves across the Iberian landscape with a slow, gathering pressure. The crime is old, but its consequences are immediate, and no one involved has clean hands. Elena Rivera won both the Iris and Ondas Awards for Best Actress for her performance in the lead role.
