The Night Servants

When nineteen-year-old Luukas joins the family business, he expects the graveyard shift to be grim. What he doesn't expect is what the night reveals about himself.

The Raakama family runs a funeral home in Helsinki, collecting bodies after dark in a city that, it turns out, has more than its share of secrets. Working alongside his uncle and foster father Sami, Luukas begins to sense something stirring in him, an ability he shares with his biological father, a man whose presence in the family story grows stranger the closer Luukas looks. The matriarch Marre holds the business together with quiet authority, but the foundations are shifting. A mysterious client, a doctor who lingers at the edges of the Raakama world, draws Luukas deeper into territory he may not have wanted to enter.

Then something goes wrong on the night rounds. A chase begins, and nothing seems willing to die.

Written by Jani Naumoff and directed by Juhana von Bagh, The Night Servants uses the specific, eerie textures of nocturnal Helsinki to ground its horror in family grief and buried history. It is Finnish drama at its most unsettling — intimate, atmospheric, and quietly relentless.
