La Moderna

Madrid, 1930. Near the Puerta del Sol, the tea room La Moderna offers its clientele a refuge from a city in flux. The Spanish capital is alive with intellectual ferment, shaped by the Generation of '27 and the women artists known as the Sinsombrero, while political tensions quietly deepen. Inside La Moderna, elegance prevails. Outside, a different reality presses in.

The series, inspired by Luisa Carnés's novel Tea Rooms, follows the women who serve the salon's distinguished guests. Dressed in uniform, expected to smile and say little, they carry lives of quiet struggle beneath the surface. Matilde, the eldest daughter of a family in financial crisis, arrives hoping for steady work and finds something she did not anticipate: Iñigo, the love she lost eight years ago. He is now a trusted associate of Don Jaime, the powerful businessman who owns the building. Don Jaime's wife, Carla, has her own claim on Iñigo and intends to keep it.

Shot across expansive period sets and on location in historic Madrid, La Moderna reconstructs 1930s Spanish society with care. The private lives of working women, the intrigues of the wealthy, and the gathering pressures of a country on the edge of change form the heart of the series.
