Late 1960s La Rioja. Two winemaking families, the Cortázars and the Revertes, are bound by common cause against a more powerful rival: Bodegas Miranda, whose patriarch Santiago stops at nothing to protect his dominance over the region.
Alejandro Cortázar has built his winery through sheer tenacity, raising four children alone after the death of his wife. His eldest son Vicente shares his ambition but fewer of his scruples. His daughter Elena, kept from the business her whole life, carries the family's deepest complication, a forbidden love for Luis Miranda, the son of their greatest enemy.
When that relationship is discovered and forcibly ended, it seems the matter is settled. Two years later, Elena returns for her brother's wedding, and nothing is.
A prequel to the long-running Spanish series Gran Reserva, Vintage Origins traces the origins of dynasties, the choices that define them, and the personal costs those choices extract. Each family carries its own secrets. Loyalties shift. Marriages hide as much as they reveal. The period setting is richly rendered, but the drama running beneath it is timeless: who controls the land, who inherits the power, and what is quietly sacrificed along the way.
