Eight young people, aged 16 to 30, each receive a single ticket and a destination they know nothing about. Guided by a mysterious QR code, they travel across Europe and find themselves immersed in the political and social realities of whichever country they have landed in.
The format draws on the logic of adventure games and digital media. Participants must solve puzzles and complete challenges to move forward, but the real discoveries come through the people they meet: activists, experts, and citizens willing to talk openly about the issues that shape their lives. Conversations touch on LGBT rights, women's rights, migration, the environment, and technology, among other pressing subjects.
There is no preparation, no briefing. The authenticity of each encounter comes precisely from that absence of foreknowledge. Cameras follow the participants as they listen, question, and sometimes struggle to process what they are hearing.
By the end of each episode, the group is asked to translate their experience into something concrete: a legislative proposal. The format is produced by RTBF and completed in 2024.
A Ticket to Europe is a civics programme in the skin of an adventure show, aimed squarely at a generation that wants Europe to mean something real.
