Fanny is sixteen, curious, and in love for the first time. When a friend introduces her to Damien, an older singer with easy money and an easy charm, it feels like a door opening onto something exciting. It isn't.
Written by Michelle Allen and produced by Encore Television, this French-language Canadian drama traces the gradual, devastating process by which a ordinary suburban teenager is drawn into sexual exploitation. Damien's world of strip clubs and prostitution closes around Fanny slowly, through seduction rather than force, making her entrapment all the more disturbing to watch.
As Fanny runs away again and again, her family is left to navigate a crisis they struggle to name or understand. The series gives equal weight to their anguish, making this as much a portrait of a family fracturing under pressure as it is a story of one girl's descent.
Inspired by real events, Fugueuse drew a 41% audience share on TVA and has since been licensed to Netflix across multiple territories, adapted for TF1 in France, and recognised at the Prix Gémeaux, the Seoul Drama Festival, and Series Mania. Its reach reflects the urgency of what it depicts.
