Belgium, 1989. The village of Wamurzelles is preparing for its annual musical chairs competition, a local institution that Thelma, an eccentric radio host, has organised with characteristic zeal. Her daughter Axelle is a young police inspector with a promotion riding on a smooth event. Then Thelma witnesses a UFO, abandons all reasonable behaviour, and joins forces with Steven, a peculiar investigator from SOBEPS, to pursue the truth.
Axelle wants no part of it. She doesn't believe a word her mother says, and the feeling is mutual.
Set against the real Belgian UFO wave of 1989, the series draws its comic energy from the collision between Axelle's institutional scepticism and Thelma's absolute, unshakeable conviction. Their relationship is the engine of the show: funny, recognisable, and quietly touching. When a mysterious disappearance rattles the village and the competition itself comes under threat, the two women have little choice but to find a way to work together.
Created by Adrien Léonard, Manon Henry, Maxime Dambly, and Sophie Beaumont, and produced by Big Trouble in Little Belgium and RTBF, Alien Kermesse is a short-form comedy series with a sharp premise and a warm core.
