A young couple on honeymoon pass through Burkland, a small town somewhere in rural Belgium. They stop at a roadside diner. Then they vanish.
Months later, journalist Lou is piecing together what happened, working from smartphone footage recovered at the scene. The town is abandoned. The images raise more questions than they answer.
Written and directed by Grégory Beghin and produced by RTBF, Burkland is a French-language short-form horror series that builds its dread through the found-footage framework of Lou's investigation. The recovered footage shows a community overtaken by a sudden, violent wave of panic, the cause of which remains deeply unclear. The series trusts its premise to generate suspense, and that trust is well placed.
Selected for Series Mania in 2016, Burkland went on to win Best Horror Series at the Vancouver Web Fest in 2018, alongside three awards at the LA Web Fest recognising its editing, sound design, and visual effects. The technical craft is integral to the storytelling, shaping how the recovered footage feels both intimate and deeply unsettling.
For platforms and broadcasters looking at short-form genre content with strong formal execution, Burkland offers a tightly constructed mystery with genuine atmosphere.
