Aitana Bonmatí won the Ballon d'Or in 2023 at the age of 26. This documentary, filmed over nearly two years, looks at how she got there, and who she is when the final whistle blows.
The film follows Bonmatí from her origins playing on a children's team in Sant Pere de Ribes, where she quickly learned to absorb the dismissive comments that came with being a girl on a pitch, through to her emergence as the defining player of her generation. It is candid and closely observed, tracing the rhythms of elite competition alongside the personal relationships, friendships, and quieter human moments that her public profile rarely reaches.
Beyond football, Bonmatí works as a UNHCR ambassador, building genuine connections with refugee women and engaging seriously with questions of social equality. The documentary gives this dimension proper weight, rather than treating it as a footnote to her sporting achievements.
Produced by 3Cat, the team behind the award-winning Unzué, Juanca's Last Team, this is a portrait made with care and access. It does not reduce its subject to statistics or trophies. Gender stereotypes surface throughout, not as backdrop, but as something Bonmatí has actively pushed against her entire career.
