Somewhere on the border between Flanders and France, a speedway circuit has held a community together for four decades. Every Sunday, 21-year-old Alizée climbs into her banger and floors the accelerator, joining her boyfriend, her father, her mother, and soon her little brother in a ritual of controlled destruction. For a few hours, she becomes a heroine. Then the week begins again.
Director Julien Henry follows Alizée and her family year after year in an observational portrait that is as much about belonging as it is about motorsport. Banger racing here is not just a hobby. It is an identity, a language, and the organizing principle of an entire way of life.
When the circuit faces closure due to administrative pressures, that identity is suddenly at risk. The film quietly asks what happens to people when the thing that gives their lives structure and meaning is taken away.
Shot in a cinema vérité style, the film brings an unknown world into sharp focus, one built from speed, noise, scrap metal, and deep human loyalty. Selected at Vision du Réel and nominated for the Magritte du Cinéma Best Documentary award, it is a portrait of community under pressure, told with economy and genuine feeling.
