On the night of 15 August 2021, Franz Dubois, aged seventy, called the police to report what he had just done. He had shot and killed his wife, Nathalie Maillet, the high-profile director of the Spa-Francorchamps motor racing circuit, along with her partner, Ann Lawrence Durviaux, a lawyer and academic. He then turned the gun on himself.

The case shocked Belgium. But the events of that night did not come from nowhere.

Produced by LouvignyMedia and RTBF, this feature documentary reconstructs the trajectory of Maillet's marriage to Dubois through testimony from her family, speaking publicly for the first time. Their accounts reveal a relationship shaped by forces that outsiders rarely see clearly from the outside. Working alongside profiler Danièle Zucker and a team of specialists, the film examines the warning signs of feminicide that were present throughout, and asks why they went unrecognised.

The result is a precise, unsettling portrait of how violence can develop within a life that, from the outside, looked like success. Maillet's story, her career, her independence, her choices, becomes the lens through which the documentary addresses gender-based violence and the dynamics of control that can persist beneath the surface of a relationship.
