Every year, millions of visitors photograph the sinuous balconies of Casa Batlló, the mosaic terraces of Park Güell, the soaring columns of the Sagrada Família, and carry those images home believing they have seen Gaudí. Many have also seen Jujol, without knowing his name.
Josep Mª Jujol began collaborating with Antoni Gaudí in 1904 and proved to be far more than a devoted student. His command of form, colour, and decorative invention left a deep imprint on the works that would define Catalan Modernisme, yet his contribution has remained largely invisible to the public.
Directed by Luis Campo Vidal, this documentary restores Jujol to his proper place alongside Gaudí, examining the creative exchange between two architects whose sensibilities shaped one another across some of the most celebrated buildings in the world. Expert analysis is woven together with the perspectives of figures who have engaged seriously with their legacy, including actor John Malkovich and architect Toshiaki Tange.
The result is a portrait of a professional partnership that proved quietly essential to modern architecture. It also poses a quiet provocation: how much of what we admire in Gaudí belongs, in part, to someone else?
