The collapse of a railway canopy in Novi Sad killed fifteen people. It also set something in motion. Within weeks, Serbian students had launched what would become the longest student strike in modern European history, occupying universities and marching against a government whose corruption the disaster had made impossible to ignore.
Director Raül Gallego Abellán gained exclusive access inside Belgrade's University of Dramatic Arts, the beating heart of the uprising, and follows the movement in real time. The students speak for themselves: their motivations, their fears, and the hard questions they ask about whether nonviolent resistance can actually hold against a state willing to escalate.
The film does not pretend to know the outcome. President Vučić's regime has shown both patience and force, and as one Belgrade academic warns on camera, the resort to greater violence remains entirely possible. More than ten months in, the movement continues, and its trajectory is genuinely uncertain.
Shot against the backdrop of a Europe increasingly comfortable with authoritarian drift, the documentary asks what it means when the continent's youth have to choose between apathy and a fight that their neighbours are largely watching in silence. Serbia's students made their choice. The rest of Europe is still deciding what to do with it.
