Nancy Van Der Straeten is 79, Belgian, and living with Parkinson's disease in a mountain village in southern Turkey. Three times a week, she makes her way to a boxing club in Antalya, where national champion Oznur Caner puts her through her paces. In the ring, something shifts. Her body, worn down by illness, finds a different kind of authority.
Director Gabriel Conty-Villauna follows Nancy with patience and precision, building a portrait that is as much about the body's capacity for resistance as it is about one woman's daily reality. When she trains, she stands taller. When she returns to the quiet of her village, the disease reasserts itself and the ghosts are harder to keep at bay.
The film moves outward from her story to ask broader questions: about ageing, about the medical establishment's relationship with the elderly, and about what it means to find agency when the body begins to fail. Boxing here is not a gimmick. It is a genuine counter-argument, both physical and philosophical, to the assumption that illness leaves only one path forward.
Filmed in 2024 and produced by 13 Prods, Domino Production, France Télévisions, Kestu Films, and RTBF, this is a single documentary of quiet force.
