Pedro Urraca Rendueles served the Franco regime as a police agent and, under the Nazi occupation of France, as Gestapo agent E-8001. Nicknamed "The Hunter of Reds," he was instrumental in tracking down Republican exiles across France, handing them to Francoist authorities for summary trial and execution. Among his victims were Lluís Companys, President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Republican minister Joan Peiró, and socialist journalists Julián Zugazagoitia and Francisco Cruz Salido. He also extorted Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust, amassing considerable personal wealth in the process. Protected by the Franco dictatorship, he evaded a French death sentence and died in Madrid in 1989, his true history largely unknown to his own children.
It was only after his death that his son and granddaughter, Loreto Urraca, uncovered what he had actually been. The discovery changed their lives. Loreto's testimony anchors this rigorously documented portrait, giving the film both its historical precision and its human dimension. Her account is one of reckoning rather than grief, delivered with dignity and quiet resolve.
Directed by Felip Solé and Pedro de Echave García, this Spanish documentary sits at the intersection of political history, war, and inherited shame.
