Madrid, 1979. Clara Montesinos is among the first women ever to join the Spanish police force, assigned to a precinct in Vallecas, a working-class neighbourhood where heroin has begun to hollow out entire streets. She arrives idealistic. The reality she finds is harder and stranger than anything she was trained for.

The hostility of her male colleagues is one problem. What she slowly uncovers beneath the precinct's surface is another. As Clara investigates the disappearance of a young woman and the death of a local dealer, she begins to suspect that the corruption runs closer to home than anyone will admit. She has no one to trust, and no evidence yet, only instinct.

Running alongside her story are two women caught in the same epidemic from different angles. Ana, a wealthy widow, is trying to pull her daughter back from addiction. Berta, Ana's housekeeper, is quietly unravelling a life her husband has gambled away.

Set against the social fractures of Spain's democratic transition, Internal Affairs is a police thriller grounded in period authenticity and driven by female characters navigating systems built to exclude them. The series was the most-watched fiction on Spanish television in early 2025.
