Piece of My Heart

Rita is a child welfare worker in Helsinki carrying more than most. Returning to her job after being suspended during a police investigation, she comes back under a cloud: a child named Elli is missing, and Rita is held responsible. She is no longer manager. A new director has taken her place. And the case that derailed her career remains unsolved.

Paired with the inexperienced Laura, Rita finds an unlikely partner. As the two build a working relationship, the line between professional and personal begins to dissolve. Laura's demanding caseload starts to follow her home. Rita cannot outrun her own past, and the search for Elli pulls her deeper into unresolved memories from her own childhood.

The series moves case by case through the Helsinki child welfare system, each episode centring on a different family in crisis. Running beneath this procedural structure is something quieter and more persistent, the question of what happened to Elli, and what it is costing Rita to find out.

Also woven through the series is sixteen-year-old Jasmin, a teenager facing pressures she should not have to carry alone.

Winner of the Jury Special Prize at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, Piece of My Heart is Finnish drama of genuine emotional weight.
