Behind the closed door of the school staffroom, the real drama unfolds. The Teachers' Lounge is a Belgian short-form comedy series from RTBF that pulls back the curtain on the daily working lives of five deeply distinctive colleagues thrown together by circumstance, caffeine, and the particular pressures of the teaching profession.
Created and directed by Christophe Bourdon and Pierre-Yves Wathour, the series finds its energy in character. Each of the five teachers is unmistakably themselves, and the group dynamic shifts constantly between warmth and friction, solidarity and gentle mockery. They are fond of each other in the way that people who spend too much time together in a small room tend to be — which is to say, genuinely and exasperatedly.
The comedy is grounded in recognisable professional reality. Misadventures accumulate. Systems fail. Personalities clash and occasionally align. Beneath the humour runs a quiet but pointed thread about what it actually means to do this job, day after day, in a world that does not always make it easy.
Starring Baptiste Lalieu, Jean-Luc Couchard, Marie Kremer, Melissa Diara, and Renaud Rutten, The Teachers' Lounge is sharp, warm, and firmly anchored in the rhythms of working life.
