Marine scientist Gàdor Muntaner has devoted her life to an animal most people fear. Raised on the beaches of Mallorca, she first encountered a shark at fifteen during a trip to the Maldives with her mother. The experience was transformative — not frightening, but clarifying. She has been working to protect sharks ever since.
This single documentary follows Gàdor across three bodies of water, each leg of the journey shaped by her personal and scientific history. In Mallorca's Illa del Toro marine reserve, she dives among blue sharks whose numbers are in steep decline. In Baja California, where she wrote her thesis on pollutants found in great white shark tissue, she works alongside local fishermen to persuade them that sharks are worth more alive. In the Maldives, she returns to where it all began, hoping to find evidence that conservation efforts have helped the tiger shark population recover.
Directed by Oriol Gispert, the film is built around Gàdor's voice and presence. Her expertise gives the science weight; her genuine affection for the subject gives it warmth. The result is a portrait of a scientist who believes that understanding an animal is the first step toward protecting it.
